The International Association of Athletics Federation (IAAF) has set a July 29, deadline for qualification to the World Championships in Athletics in Russia. The 14th edition of the biennial championship will be held on 10-18 August at the Luzhniki Stadium in the Russian capital. Bawa Fuseini, General Secretary of the Ghana Athletics Association (GAA) told GNA Sports that the global track and field body has informed prospective national federations of the deadline to select athletes for the eight-day championship. He said athletes who make the qualifying marks in their respective events in competitions from October 1, 2012 till July 29, 2013, will seal their spots for the global championship. The GAA scribe observed the nation’s contingent for the championship hinges on the number of athletes who make the qualifying mark as at the deadline. He explained that athletes can compete in ongoing international meets in Europe and elsewhere to make the requirements. At the previous edition in 2011 in Daegu, Japan, Ghana participated in four events – heptathlon, 100-metres, 4X100 metres and Long Jump.
