Strong 100m field awaits Usain Bolt in London

A very strong 100 metres lineup awaits Usain Bolt when the World record holder takes part at the IAAF Diamond League meeting in London, the Sainsbury’s Anniversary Games, on 26-27 July. Bolt, who has been taking his time to sharpen up for the IAAF World Championships next month, has a modest 9.94 seconds seasonal best so far by his standards, but the Jamaican sprint sensation promised to improve on that time come this weekend. A large group of track and field supporters were in the stadium at last summer’s London Games to watch Bolt raced to two three gold medals and the 26-year-old is hoping for something similar. “I’m looking forward to coming back to the UK, especially with it being a year since winning three gold medals in the Olympic Stadium,” Bolt said. “The crowd were amazing at the Games, and I hope they will be out again in their numbers at the end of July. “I haven’t competed at the London Diamond League since 2009 but it has always been a great meet with lots of Jamaican support; it almost feels like running at home.” Lining up next to the Olympic sprint double champion will be his fellow Jamaican countryman Nesta Carter, who has already posted an impressive 9.87 seconds this season, as well as Great Britain’s new sprint star James Dasaolu, who became only fourth British sprinter to ever break the 10-second barrier. The field also includes St Kitts and Nevis’ 2003 World champion Kim Collins, who after missing the Olympics is looking forward to finally racing in the Olympic Stadium. “My story from London was well documented and to have the opportunity a year on to run in the stadium is something that I’m really grateful for,” Collins said. “The support I get from the British crowds every year is incredible and I’m looking forward to hearing that roar when I come out on to the track in July. “This is my Olympic final, and I’m going to take full advantage of the occasion and show that, even at 37, I’m still a force to be reckoned with.” Briton champion Dwain Chambers, French star Christophe Lemaitre and USA’s Michael Rodgers.
